Depending on the design the instruments are inlaid with turquoise, silver, coral colored oyster shell or Mother of Pearl. The black flute bodies are walnut that is Ebonized, a process used since the early 1900's when Ebony was already rare and costly but Ebony furniture was popular. To compensate for that, wood workers developed a dyeing process called Ebonizing.
